Definitely print out the relevant Rave pages from the electrical manual.
There isn't any reason you shouldn't be able to sort it out and repair it.
Ideally solder the connections, but if you want to use crimp butt splice connectors I'd use uninsulated ones, fill them with dielectric grease before inserting the wires and then seal them with moisture seal heat shrink tubing.

Thanks for the tips guys, I'm gonna head down and work on it now. Never thought I'd get so much encouragement to repair something electrical. I know squat about electronics, I just play match the color and make sure the connection is good and tight.

Well, it is a lot more complicated than it looks. The bare copper wire you guys are seeing seems to be some sort of ground. There is plastic covering, and if I cut that back, that copper wire is braided all around the pink wire. I put everything back together as best I could, but there is still a misfire. And if I touch the wires while the truck is running, it acts like it wants to stall. I called a LR dealer, and they want $1,300 for a harness. I say no thanks. I'm gonna make a few more calls and check the net, and see if I can't find one a cheaper.
I'm working on a wiring harness now, there is a guy parting out a DII on craigslist. He said he can get me the best deal, so we'll see.
