Default '00 Disco II Transmission kickdown issue

The transmission will up shift late while driving. Almost like it's in sport mode but it's not. Also lags to drop down into a lower gear after I slow down or come to a stop.

For example if I am going 35+ mph and then come to a stop at a stop sign. I have to rev my engine to 2,000+ rpms then the transmission will drop into gear and I can proceed. If I don't rev the engine up after I stop and just try and proceed like normal I have no gear and the car doesn't move. Just sits and revs up like I'm in neutral.

I drained the trans pan and the fluid looked good still. Darkish red. I topped it up with fresh fluid and it still does the same thing.

Any input on what's going on? Will the ABS lights cause transmission shift issues? I'm running the front prop shaft off with the CDL engaged for now. I plan to put it back on for the snow but will do it now if it's causing issues.

Did you verify your fluid level? You need to do that with the engine running
