Default 01 head gasket..please help failed again

I am going to attempt to do the head gasket on my 01disco II. Just posted the headgasket thread, (found lots of useful advice on the site in other related threads...everything but the process of how) temps are going up to 34 this weekend..so I won't freeze in the unheated garage

Does anyone have the technical doc that describes this process..step by step?

I know the general process label all elec plugs I disconnect, drain rad, remove intake, remove exhaust manifods, remove heads..etc. But I am sure there is a very detailed outline of this process somewhere.

Please email it to iprocureit@yahoo.com, or just point me to the link. This looks like a 12hr job by a pro...looks like 36 hours for me. Also where do I get parts..local dealer or somewhere on line...cheaper? I know I need new head bolts as well.

Thanks,

Phil

Well the good news it is a 5 hour or less job for a pro.
Make sure to use only Rover gasket kits and new head bolts. While doing this replace your plug wires with a new set of 8 mm Magnacor wires, new t/stat, new upper radiator hose, if you have the olf style.
Also do an ATF flush before starting, will make it alot cleaner to work on.

alldata.com, but you have to pay $$. Atlantic British and DAP have kits online, I'm sure there are others as well.

Default this is great but I can find the headgasket process

Thanks, I finally dove into the removal process and would feel better with a specific removal process. Is it in the rave download?

Thanks,

Phil

Read the manual..

Get an understanding of what is what..

Then disasemble it.. use a cart or tray to place your parts on, labeling them if you need to..

You are going to need to get new head bolts to put it back together....
I think Ive read that before.. dont reuse the old head bolts.

You CANNOT reuse your old head bolts, they streatch when you touqre them and you will never get them tight enough ever again.

Unhappy COOLANT IN OIL AGAIN>..just replaced head gaskets?

Ok really getting frustrated. After successfully completing the head and intake gasket exchange on my 02 discovery just 4 weeks and $800 ago(gaskets, plugs, wires, belt, bolts) dealer ripped me for parts I provided the labor.

I HAVE COOLANT IN THE OIL AGAIN after it ran perfect for the last 3 weeks.

I had zero problems for the last four weeks, no leaks no sensor idiot lights. This morning when I started it the SRS, and Incline idiot lights were on? I looked under the hood for a loose wire or something that could have melted...nothing. I checked the oil (have been every week since I finished the job) and this morning it was up 1 qt, and the coolant was down 1 qt. COOLANT IN OIL AGAIN.

What else could it be? Did I mis-diagnos the Head Gasket? It didn't lead until now..4 weeks after I completed the job.

PLEASE help, not looking forward to another teardown...where else would it be leaking?

There were no obvious cracks that I saw in the heads, block or Intake when it was apart?

thanks,

Phil

Sounds like something warped, did you have the heads done?

a quart is a lot, it probably didnt take 4 weeks to all get there... it could be the head or block are warpped, did it overheat before? could be something didnt get on all the way during the process. could also be front cover
