maybe its a warped head. you should have measure it when you took it off first. might need a machine shop for that

Default front cover or head warped...comments

I read the comments, how can I tell (externally) if it's the front cover? I installed it with the Silicone recommended around the edges.

As for the Head...it did overheat, and I didn't have the heads checked at the machine shop...you guys really think they could be warped?

I hate the thought of pulling it apart again...that rear bolt is a giant pain.

other suggestions? Pressure test?

If I take it apart again...can I re-use the head bolts? they are eX$$ and only 4 weeks old. I assume I can't reuse the head and intake gaskets?

Thanks,

Phil

If it overheated I would bet some $$$ it's the heads, and for the bolts someone else will have to chime in on those.

bolts have to be new again. They have already stretched.

Have the system pressure tested

Default update...have apart again

got it apart again...easier and faster the 2nd time, but not fun.

A few observations:

the rear cylinders on both sides were filled with coolant...but I am not sure if that because the pistons were down in the cylinder and there was room for coolant. The fronts had none but those pistons were at tdc..?

The heads have (on the chamber side) four dowl pin holes.. the bottoms actually sync with the block dowel pins and the tops don't have anything. Are they oil passages?
I ask because the rear upper holes were filled with sludge....imagine a and b as the upper "holes" next to the water passages on each end of the heads...and c and d as the bottons actual dowel pin holes.
Hole b on the top rear of both heads was gummed/sludged up bad. I just cleaned these heads a month ago when it was apart last..seemed weird.

the heads passed the "eyeball" straight edge test...taking to machine shop to be sure?

how do you id a cracked cylinder ? or sleve? rear head water passages not sealed ?

any other thoughts or suggestions..?

You need to either listen to what you are told and do it the correct, step by step way, or give it to a shop.
You don't eye ball heads to see if they are warped, you staright edge them from six points using a gauge.
Replace all the parts again and read the proper procedure for reinstalling heads, by sequence of bolts and torgue specs. If you don't have that information ask one of us.
