Default 02 Disco Cup Holders - Install on '00 Disco II (questions/help)

first off - just bought a used 00 disco II and loving it, i'm incredibly happy to be apart of the LR community!

My disco has the cupholders that pop out of the dash console (below air control), which when bought was broken and seems to be a hassle in general. i was going to fix this but found out the part at the dealer was $140 (yikes) and it wasn't available and roverlandparts.com so i opted for the 02 cup holders that mount onto the center console (bought at roverlandparts) it doesn't look like a big job, I just wanted to know if anyone else has done this before.

a few questions:

  • are there mounting issues because i have an 00 disco II instead of an 02? perhaps there's something built onto the center console for these holders to attach on to. from my research within this forum and others it looks like it's no biggie.
  • what tools will i need to do this?
  • any tips/tricks for mounting the cup holders to the center console? the more detail the better!
overall, just looking for some general guidance before i do this so i don't make any glaring mistakes. again, incredibly excited to driving around in my disco. i'm totally that dork who wants to wave to another disco owner on the road!

discomike:
i've passively followed you for some time now (you were a great resource in learning about all the things i should look for when buying the truck), would love your two cents here if you have any input available.

I have not installed these on a truck but there is no difference between the '02 and '00 cup holders or where they mount, you can also install these into a DI.

When you get the cupholders it will all be crystal clear... you have to drill 3 holes for each cupholder. Two of the holes are for screws and one for a peg built into the cupholder.

Be VERY careful when you measure to use the correct measurements for each side. They are NOT the same.

Took me about 20 minutes total to get them installed and I love them. They will hold a super big gulp from 7-11

@Spike555 thanks for the input!

@Robmcin thanks for the details, will definitely keep in mind that each side is different. i won't be getting them for awhile (roverlandparts is a little slow on sending stuff out), but many thanks again for the help! i'll definitely be prepared when i get them!
