Seems like Rovers are a crap shoot - the same part can fail on a 60K vehicle or run strong on a 160K... Am I correct? I've seen rovers with well over 100,000 miles and all original drivetrains...

Sure, all vehicles are a crap shoot, and in the case of a 4wheel drive it's a bigger crap shoot depending on how hard you push it.

Be glad you have the extended warranty.
By law most companies have to have the adjuster out within 24 hours of the call. They will pay for a rental car ususally after the approval is issued and you get a new diff, not a bad way to go.

Great news. Its finally fixed and picked her up yesterday after having the front differential changed. What an ordeal. One question, it seems to be making a whisling/whinesound now. The shop said that it was fine. Could it be that since the diff was failing , and now that its new I notice the difference.
