02 disco hesitation/stalling on incline
Hello all. I’ve got an issue that is just confusing me. I have an 02 disco, previous owner replaced hg and entire cooling system. Runs really great except that it keeps stalling on inclines. Sometimes it’s 10 mph sometimes it’s 40mph. Sometimes the engine kicks back on on its own but sometimes I have to recrank it. I’ve replaced the maf and cps. Just at a loss of what it could be. Anyone ever heard of this issue?
When I bought it the truck was almost at 3/4 full and now it’s still above half full. My neighborhood has lots of hills. Seems to do it on a consistent basis on the really steep ones. Not going any fast than 30mph and usually with acceleration to compensate. Maybe fuel pump but if the psi is so low that it would cause this then I don’t see how it could stay running in the first place.
Any codes ? Do the all the dash lights come on when you turn the ignition on
Does it just die or is there a sputter or 2 1st:
Also try pressing the mode switch and go to sport mode see if there is any change
Can you duplicate:
Finally same thing engage sport mode in a empty parking lot, a put the pedal the floor

- Going along fine
- Start up the hill
- Truck dies or seems lose power then dies

What you are doing is testing the pickup tube of the fuel pump for semi-floating debris in the fuel tank, which is vastly more likely to temporarily clog when fuel level is not 100% full.
I like easy.
Filling up with fuel and driving up the same hill again is easy. Humor me.
The low range test is in case there is a transmission or driveshaft issue. Just note if you get further up the hill in low range than before.
This test should not be confused/mixed with the full fuel tank test up a hill.
2 different tests.
