Default What did I get myself into? 02 disco 2

So I'm a owner of a European repair shop specializing In Vw Audi bmw Mercedes's. Long story short a customer brought in his disco 2 for a non start issue. I diagnosed the vehicle and find its an immobilizer issue. Customer doesn't want to fix and asked if I'd be interested in the disco for what he owes me for diagnostic. So my question is what are the issues the disco 2s have? As I've never owned nor worked on one before. Any info greatly appreciated.

Thanks

They are very durable if well maintained. And there is even some potential to upgrade it. Since you own a shop the maintenance won't be an issue. Can't be harder to maintain than an AUDI!!!

They aren't worth much, though. Mainly because service is expensive and parts are supposedly hard to find (I always find what I need though).

The most common problem is head gaskets due to overheating, which is due to poor maintenance or something catastrophic. If you can replace head gaskets (which I, a non mechanic, can do in an afternoon in my driveway... not bragging, it just isn't that hard... with the engine in the truck) and maintain the cooling system, they are a STEAL.

The security system was and is very sophisticated. Overly so, maybe.

If you Google "three amigos" you'll find that the ABS systems can be a little finicky.

The only other negative I can think of is that the OBDII codes have to really be considered in combination, sometimes, to figure out what the problem is.

Terrible gas mileage. 15-18.

What year is the Disco?

Chances are it has a BMVeh security system.

Throw your code reader on it and see what the real story is.

Should be a piece of cake for someone like yourself. Spare parts are available and in my opinion, easy to work on.

There is a way to unlock the security system with the key.

You need to have the 4 digit unlock code that came with the Land Rover Discovery. May still be in the manual if that book is still with the Discovery.

You need to put it in the unlock mode and then use the key back and forth.

USA supposedly could unlock with code 1515.

For DE not sure.

You may need to contact a dealer with the VIN and get the unlock code.

Not sure what even triggers the Rover to go into lock down.
Others may know.

I posted a bunch of this about a week ago to help someone else.
But I cut and paste from a bunch of sites. Should be further down the blogs on here.
