Default '02 Discovery Drivers Door Lock

HI All,

Does the Disco manually lock and unlock with the key? Or does it activate the actuator in order to lock/unlock. I know I need a new actuator or replace the motor as the passenger side works as it should.

** Some added info: The key wouldn't turn. I had the handle off yesterday, fixing the tumbler and finally got the key to turn. Then I ran into the above problem. **

Thanks in advance

You can manually lock/unlock. The battery can be completely dead and you can unlock it.

From the outside with the key? I wonder if I'm missing some linkage as well. I do not feel any resistance when I turn the key to physically turn the lock, It just tries to lock or unlock via power.

Sounds like the lock rod that goes from the lock cylinder to the actuator is broken, common failure. A search will turn up multiple options to repair it.

The lock rod is still intact and seated in the actuator correctly. It unlocks and locks the passenger side. I was wondering if the key will manually lock and unlock like the old cars via some gears instead of using the power locks.

Ok, so when the battery is connected it will turn 90 deg and try to unlock under power. When the battery is disconnected, it will go 45 deg and try to unlock mechanically. I didn't want to turn any harder, I felt like the key was going to bend and break. With a little help from the inside, it unlocked. Going to get after swapping motors in the actuators.
