Default 03-04 disco II jump seats

Can anyone explain why I'm finding that later '03 and I think most of '04 disco II's have a drivers side jump seat that doesn't fully recess like the passenger side does? What features do these discos have that the others with fully recessed drivers side jump seats don't have? I'm looking at buying one of these model years and for the life of me I can't believe that Land Rover seemed to have screwed up by having one jump seat stick out into the cargo area like that.

My 04 is like that and my wife does not like it. It sticks out because the backup alarm sensor setup is in there I think. Or it's the nav setup.

Ya, its the park assist, shows it the rave manual.

If you have rear A/C the evaporator and blower motor occupy part of the space in the L/R. There's a picture(drawing actually) on page 1232 of RAVE

Yep. The rear air. My 96 D1 was that way and my 99 d2 is the same... seat doesn't sit flush.

Yep, mine has rear air as well. The park assist is in there too, but the a/c stuff is whats eating up the room. Learn something about these rigs every day.

Thanks for everyone's answers. What a poor design flaw in my opinion. I guess I'll be looking for ones without parking assist and rear A/C.

FWIW I have park assist but no rear A/C, and both of my jump seats appear to fold in the same amount, so you might be able to just forego the rear A/C and get what you want. I can look at it more closely tomorrow when the garage door is open and I can open the back door completely
