Well today we finally did the task of installing my 03-04 Disco lights in my 2000 Disco. We modified and installed them using the previous existing write up at the beginning and then began to modify things our own way. All in all we have two brackets on each side riveted to the core support and bolted to the top of the headlights, as well as the existing tab mounted on the inner side of the headlight bolted down, and a bolt going into the fender through the tap out the bottom outer edges of the lights. So needless to say it's more than sturdy enough.


The entire install, from turning the truck off to starting it back up took us 6-7 to hours total.


We also reinstalled my HID kit original made for a 9003 bulb into these H7 headlamps as seen below.


Needless to say it was more than worth it.

You should grind off the lower cross bar on your bumper, as it partially blocks the lower light. A guy around here with a 2003 has done it and it looks even better.

If anyone has any questions, including you Darover, feel free to ask and I'll help out to the best of my abilities. I'm currently thinking of making a write up too since this install was done quite differently than the current write up shows to do. Just so that people can have a option on which way they would like to tackle the project.

 

How did you get it all for so cheap? I think it turned out great and would love to do it myself, I just cannot find the lights for less than $200 each.

 

Well, I must say that I read the write up and the way to do it, but the way you did it impressed me more. Especially the way you chose to bring the wires out of the lamp housing. Shows right there that you take the time to think and find the best ways to get things done. I still think that the best way to do it would be to get the right plug-in for the lamp and do the wire connections before the light andretain the simple plug-in factor. But I checked with the dealer, and to get the plug, you have to get the whole wiring harness which definitely isn't cheap. Same goes for the light backing plate. If one gets the 2003-2004 backing plates, you take the old ones out, weld the new ones in and and you have a bolt-on installation. But again, that's another $300.

So with this said, if you could, I would definitelylike step by step instructions of the way you did it, since, as said I think you did the next best thing by keeping it cost effective.


So my friend..... Which plug-in did you use ??? how did you wire it ???? I won't be going HID, so I guess the ballast is not needed..right ??? I noticed that you used part of the housing and riveted it on the top ?????

well I can't answer everything, but all of the brackets we made for the top (that you saw pop rivited in place) were made from what we cut out of the headlight bezel area. We did not have much other scrap to work with..and figured its under a closed hood 98% of the time so who cares if it looks a little funky. (oh I am the one in most of the pics going crazy with the cut off wheel[8D].) Chris did all the moding of the housings to make the wires pass through. to tell you the truth I think it was probably easier installing these with HID's than it would have been with regular bulbs. the only wires we needed to pull from the inside of the headlight housing and attach to vehicle wiring harness was the turn signal/hazzard/marker lights. it would have been more complicated adding the low and high beams in. As it sits now Chris only has Low beam HID's but it wouldn't take much work to put HID's in the Highs as well. I for one though think it would be better money spent to put HID's in all the OFF ROAD lights.
