Do understand, it's not a bad oil pump. It's the way it's mounted to the motor that causes stress to the pump. Also, if your Disco is within the VIN range, it doesn't necessarily mean you have certain pump failure in your future. It just means that's the range where the flawed design could cause that stress on the pump. If you already have a lot of miles on your Disco without any problems, then it's unlikely you'll see any problems going forward. I've got 119,000 miles on mine with no pump failures, but then I guess it could fail tomorrow... For that matter, I've also seen posts from people who have 04's that had oil pump failures, but there's not a TSB on 04's.... at least not yet.

drummer, I thought the discos in the bad range had pumps that did not provide enough pressure.

Drummer is right. The pump itself seems to be ok, it's the drunk machinist that screwed us...

I've got a 3A785....it's an 03 with almost 88K on it. Should I be concerned? Haven't had any issues to date.....

I think it's pretty much hit or miss, maybe your maintenance habits play a role also (probably). I have an '03, and to be honest, I don't want to know if it's in the range or not! I have read where some '04's have come up with the problem as well.

ok just to sum up, this is a design flaw and there is no cost feasible way to repair it?

LR says the only way to repair it is to replace the entire engine ($10,000). Or you could find a *gently* used one for about $4,000. I guess you could do some "preventative" maintenance by replacing the pump every 45,000 whether or not it needs it ($400??). It's up to you, but just because your VIN falls in some "range", I wouldn't freak out.
