Just curious but if LR is aware of this "design flaw" how come there's no service bulletin or recall on it? I work for BMW and if this had happened on a car or X3/5, they'd be all over it to keep the customers satisfied and avoid a lawsuit.
There was a TSB (technical service bulletin) for the repair while the vehicle was under warranty, but after that, you're on your own... Here is a copy I found online and saved for myself...

In fact, there is a guy that is posting on other Forums about a personal lawsuit and he wants to 'round the troops together for a class-action lawsuit since it was a design flaw and they knew about it...

Well, unfortunately, my vehicle does fall into the VIN range. I'm all about joining the army for this!

my 03 also falls in the bad vin range so I told my dealer to get me a full coverage warranty (3rd party warranty) just in case it did blow. Its got 75k miles on it and nothings happened so far.
