03 D2 Jump Seat Belts
Been wanting to add jump seats to my 04 D2 since I got it...finally found a donor 03 D2 in a junkyard and pulled everything. Install went almost perfect, except for an irritatating detail...
When I pulled the jump seat seat belts I let them fully retract when I packed up all the parts. Did my install and found I can't pull the seat belts out. Tryed tugging them a little, pushing pulling, took one side off to view mechanism, which has several tiny plastic spline parts that of course moved when opening the case...no interior details of the part in the workshop manual, not seeing anything online...
Could buy a new pair from eBay but there's nothing wrong with the ones I have...except of course that I can't seem to unspool them...anyone have any experience with these belts fully rolled?

Turn them? I dont know the design of the internals but some belts have a weight that locks them. Try pulling the belt, SLOWLY, will holding the base in different directions.
someone else may have a better idea. Are there any electrical connections?

i had the same problem with my centre rear belt all the time. i had to replace it several times because i could never get it to release. never did find a way to get it to unspool after it had fully retracted.
Sounds like reverse lock. If so, it happened yesterday to me while installing jump seats, but on the 2nd row seat belts. If you disconnect the assembly entirely and let the belt retract all the way, it may then deactivate reverse lock and come back out. That’s what solved mine.
