Exclamation 03' Discovery - NO Reverse -Help Please

It has been awhile since I have been on but I ran into an issue here.

1. Driving on highway [1hr one way and 80% back at this point]
a. Heard a louder noise an a slightly bog down on engine and then back to normal.
b. Then the 'red' Transmission oil temperature started flickering on and off.
c. As I came off highway I only had 2 lights to get home - as I slowed down
and 'did not' apply gas peddle it made an odd noise never heard before
almost as if transmission was whinning and once applied gas it went away
d. I was able to make it home and put vehicle into idle -no noise no issue.

2. Today I initially checked main fluids -oil-water- [weather in FL dropped 30degrees during time was driving and this happened].

3. I wanted to see if it produced same noise if was not applied foot to gas
a. Instead it would NOT go into reverse!
b. FINE--> in Park + D [ no issues going forward and no noise]
c. There is no indicator 'red' light on for Trans oil temp as before.
d. So, I put in REVERSE + applied gas to see result
=It jerked the Rover back maybe an inch and a grind noise under vehicle
=Would not move in reverse at all -->immediately put in N and then Park.

No other apparent issues. Simply something is not engaging it into Reverse or is Oil Gearbox 'LOW -Extremely Low'?

Please help - Need to be able to drive this week and will do all work myself to get it done quickly!
-You guys have been awesome before and Mike has been GREAT!

I just cannot seem to identify the issue properly.

Could it simply be the Transmission - Filter + Fluid Needs Replaced ?
-In had planned on it at beginning of year anyways but have never done it!

Mileage?

It could be a fluid issue, but that would bring down the entire trans, not just reverse.

Does the gear selection show in the instrument cluster?

Has the transmission ever been serviced before - filter, fluid, etc?

Is there a hole in the side of the transmission due to the front propshaft calling it quits?

Default From another website. Info

There are several sensors, vacuum lines, and mechanical components that work together to ensure the transmission functions correctly. When one or more of these components fail, the transmission will miss, grind or over-rev many of the gears, and reverse is usually the first gear to experience serious problems.

The torque converter is frequently the culprit in this scenario. Its purpose is to transfer energy from the prime mover, which is the engine in a vehicle, to the transmission. In an automatic transmission, these units function as a one-way clutch. When the clutches begin to fail, the lower gears will not engage. Repair requires replacing the torque convertor and flushing the transmission fluid.

A worn reverse gear can also occur when a transmission is mishandled. If the fluid in a transmission is not properly maintained, sludge will build up. This causes unnecessary friction between the gears, which results in eventual wear. The gears then lose the ability to smoothly shift. Repair requires the transmission to be fully rebuilt.

Change the fluid in the pan and the filter. DO NOT FLUSH THE TRANSMISSION. Just change the fluid in the pan. There will still be a lot in the valve body and torque converter. Also use Lucas transmission fix in addition to the new fluid. I have seen this method work before on other vehicles.

What should In be looking for related to the "Shift selector cable" that would designate an issue with it shifting into Reverse?
-simply it would be seemingly too loose when shift into Reverse + Park?
--Cause isn't park further up and 1 notch click from Reverse

I will change filter, gasket, tranny fluid --->not flush
-Make sure any pieces or crap in there that could have caused blockage.

Anything else feel I should check while I have him up?
