Default 03 making noise...

My 03 is in the middle of the vin range of bad oil pump alignment and just this morning she has developed a new sound of illness with low oil pressure light sticking around for seconds at a time after start up cold and hot... I am fully aware of the issues at hand and currently retrieving reciepts and info to begin the discussion with LR this next week... Any advice on this wonderful walk towards a new motor would be appreciated... Shes got almost 71k on her with 10w-30 in her

dont bother with LRNA... they wont help you or anybody else.. unless you had a warranty, which you probably dont!!!

my 03 had the same problem and even a rebuild didnt work... block was toast.... so i've purchased a new engine from junkyard with 50k for 2300$

i would first remove your oil pump cover and look at the pump... i bet the ring gear is broken in 3 pieces... i'd replace that first( a new oil pump gear is 100$ from AB. after you do that and button the truck back up...test the oil pressure... or just listen for a tick... if you still have a tick... i'd venture to say its too late... you've toasted bearings already.... but just maybe you have not!!!

if the new oil pump doesn't work.... buy a used engine or a re manufactured one from auto sport unlimited for 4000$... its comes in a long block or short

there are ways to make sure your oil pump wont fail again because of the block defect.. but people dont like to hear the answer because its unproven so far

I agree with the last post, there is no help to be had from Rover so don't waste your time.
In the mean, don't even start that even till you are ready to have someone other then a dealer, replace the front pump and cover. Realize this is a short term fix, 20,000 to 60,000 mile plus before it fails agian, but other then buying anothe engine this is your only options.
Call around, get some estimates before a mechanic even touches that engine and get back to us. Make sure they are familiar with the problem and have replaced Rover pumps before.

The more of these posts I see the more livid I get.

I attended a car show last weekend and stopped by the Land Rover display. Although the poor salesman on the receiving end of my rant had nothing to do with the oil pump fiasco, I made sure to mention how vile it was that we '03 and some '04 owners were screwed by a Land Rover caused defect.

The trucks are worth almost nothing now and you can't take long trips for fear of the pumps giving out. You're stuck with a vehicle that you practially can't give away but you can't really use it, either. The only option I see is to keep throwing money away in the hopes that eventually a new engine will at least let you get some of your money's worth from it.

The PO of my Rover had the pump go at 48,000 miles. It was just two months out of warranty but the dealership would do nothing more than give him a $10,000 estimate to replace the engine.

Thankfully there wasn't any engine damage. So he replaced the oil pump and, perhaps wisely, sold it to someone else (read: me).

Thanks to everyone replying... I recall a couple posts some time ago where someone had an issue such as this and won even with the vehicle out of warrenty... I am going to do everything legally possible to make landrover regret that I ever purchased this machine. I do love the vehicle as I have 2 of them and have done all maint. myself and I can't see LR stabbing us in the back after such a strong machine was produced to virtually go anywhere. I have a lot of time on my hands and this issue will now become at the top of my priorities list rest assured...

also failed to mention that I pulled the dipstick to find a couple small metal fragments... I realize what that mean's for this engine and I have not started it since and not planning to until I figure out what will happen next in this whole adventure... disco mike, I have talked to you on several occasions and feel free to call me to converse about this matter over the phone... 574.360.1211

Thanks,
Kelly

i'm glad you have two disco's and alot of time.... cuz if you want to find a good deal on a engine with low miles... its gonna take you a couple months easy no one has engines in stock.... not roverland for sure

i've been looking for 5 months every other day on car-parts.com to find my 2300$ engine....

LRNA is a waste of time... but good luck... many have tried ....many never succeed.... the one case your thinking of was when it was in the shop before hand and the dealer screwed up by replacing his motor... clearly this is not what LRNA would have done..... someone felt bad for this guy and replaced his engine..... they probably lost their job after too...

Rover has been sold 3 times, believe me there is no money coming your way. Do yourself a favor and let it go cause something are just way out of your control and life is too short to carry it around.
