I like the idea of a onboard oil psi gauge. Now that I have witnessed this while standing next to the vehicle and seen how quick this destroyed itself, I would try and convince every 03-04 owner out there to have one installed for/with confidence... It would be nice for LRNA to give all 03-04 owners a oil pressure gauge for christmas... ha ha ha
Another hunch of mine...and not backed up by any data other than the recent increase in postings about these failures....is that the cold weather might be playing a part.

It's not too hard to imagine the thicker oil brought on by colder start up temperatures places more stresses than normal on the oil pump, thus increasing the liklihood of them failing at this time of the year.

Mine failed in the winter, too, btw.

Yes, I could not agree more... My better half drives this machine the most and this truck gets 3 cold starts everyday except Sat. and Sun. The truck used to sit in a warm hangar most of the time as I was away on trips with very little cold starts... Cold Starts being 15-20 deg. and below

My LR's vin isn't in the range for bad oil pumps, but it's had a different engine installed in it, and the vin from that specific vehicle i'm not sure of. My engine ticks when it's cold out, but the tick goes away once the vehicle is warmed up. If my oil pump starts to go, will my oil pressure light come on?

Yes, the light will come on.

According to the RAVE manual it's either 6 or 8 psi which, in my opinion, is much too low of a setpoint.

Guys, last winter I noticed when I would cold start this 03, the low oil pressure light would stay on for up to 10 seconds... that gave me a sign that this thing might be close to going but was fine for this last summer... Last night when I started it, she ran really quiet and smooth until she warmed up to operating temp and the tick sound appeared, within 5 min. after she was toast... I shut the motor down instantly once I saw the pressure light on... The tick sound was similar to a rocker arm tapping... This is the best I can describe it seeing how she was parked and not going down the road at 50 mph... I GOT REALLY LUCKY...!!!!!
