Default '03 Vacuum Unit Loose Connection

I opened the hood of my '03 yesterday to look things over and noticed that on the "vacuum unit" (the black canister on the right side of the engine close to the windshield) the tubing with a 90 deg connector was just dangling on the engine side of the canister. When I tried to plug it back onto the nipple of the vacuum unit there is no resistance whatsoever to hold the connector. A couple questions:

1] What does the vacuum unit canister do?

2] How should I fix this loose connection?

Thanks.
Alan

This question has been asked before and the answer that was given is let it be.
If she is running fine with no trouble codes then close the hood and dont wory about it.

Thanks Spike for your response. That makes me feel a little less concerned. I tried searching for "vacuum unit" before posting my question but didn't see anything relevant. Can you please point me to the right thread? I'm still interested in finding out what the vacuum unit is for first.

Sorry but I do not remember which thread it was, it was like a year or so ago.
If I remember right that is the carbon canister, but dont quote me on it.
