04 bits into 96
Hey there, ive got a 96 D1 that is my beater/crawler/beach/weekend warrior. There is an 04 for sale near me that is cheap and I'm considering picking up and swapping the 4.6 and other bits into my D1, ive read up on whats needed to convert the Bosch motor to gems with the misc sensors and timing gears, etc. and am confident in tackling that.
My question now is, is the 04 tcase worth swapping as well? My current one has some horrendous slap/bang when shifting to/from park and when downshifting to gear 1(at least I assume it is the tcase and not the tranny). Is the tcase uprated in thr later trucks? Gearing different? Stronger? Any benefit at all?
How about the diff pumpkins? This rig is 60k lower miles than mine and I'm going to assume the diffs are in better shape as well with less mileage on them. They should be a direct removal and bolt in, right?
Dash board should be a direcr swap as well, right? Ive read here and there that folks have uses D2 dashes in D1s, but no definitive yes or nos on it
I have thought about just buying it and keeping it as is and fixing it, but I dont need a second truck and while traction control would be nice, I don't want the complexity and higher failure rate of the later systems

I wasnt aware of much of anything being shared between the RRC and D1? Doesnt the RRC use the borgwarner tcase and have different diffs and axle shafts? 10 splines? Maybe the tranny is shared
Transmission, 87-88 RRC had diff lock vs viscous coupling, 94-95 D1 had the same 3.9L V8, same lock actuators, same door handles, same rim bolt pattern, basically a RRC is D1/D90/D110.
