Default 04 cdl shifter

Took out a shifter I bought last year ready to install soon so I decided to lubricated etc. Noticed on the hi/low shifter side there is s solenoid that needs to be engaged to move it from hi low
what activated that solenoid ?

I believe all the harnesses have the ability to wire that solenoid up. Check the wiring diagrams. If not, you can eliminate the solenoid.

The solenoid is energized when in neutral so that the high/low lever can be moved to change gearing. It is a safety lockout so you don't accidentally shift at speed/in drive or reverse

If your transfer case is not an '04, you already have that solenoid on the top of the main casing of the transfer box. So either delete the solenoid in the shifter, or convert to using the shifter solenoid. Using the shifter solenoid is ideal

You do, the solenoid on the case is plugged into it.

The wire on the 04 shifter conveniently routes right back to the top of the transfer case, where the solenoid is.

If you use the 99 TC I’d remove the onboard solenoid and use the one on the 04 shifter. 03’s should have the solenoid mounted on the Hi/N/Lo assembly vs the TC. 02 was the last year a D2 had it on the TC. 03-04 = mounted on the Hi/N/Lo assembly vs the TC.

Easier to delete the solenoid when the TC is out of the truck than when it's in. Save some time and delete it before it's installed.
