Question '04 D2 with Mystery Vacuum or Vent Line

Hello. I just inherited my first LR, an '04 D2 130K with a blown head gasket, etc. However, after I had removed a few components, I noticed the 'mystery' vac or vent line wasn't connected to anything. Should it be disconnected? Location: The line enters the engine bay via the front driver's side wheel well; travels horizontallly along the firewall (clipped to firewall) toward the center and stops. Hopefully, the following link works, which is a pic of the mentioned line.

PS: I've looked in the manual and searched the forums. I found related info, but nothing conclusive.

-Thanks in advance for any assistance

I have searched high and low for a definitive answer on this, but when you don't even know what its called, it makes finding useable info nearly impossible.

I did notice the others (passenger side of firewall) are also open-ended lines, which were hook-shaped with the end facing down - I'm assuming these additional lines are intended to be open.
