Lightbulb 04 Disco II - Just Purchased - Requesting input/Advice

Hi All,

Purchased an 04 Disco II SE , pretty pumped.
Current known issues:
  • 3 Amigos
  • headliner around front sunroof needs to be re-glued.
  • Funny item - was told no electrical issues what so ever, opened sunroof, then won't close, starts pouring... classic.
Surface rust on chassis, to be expected but looks like rear may need to be replaced, TBD.
From the seller was provided service records and was told solid truck other than the 3 amigos issue, gave me code reader with purchase, says its a solenoid that needs replacing.

With that said looking to have it dropped off at a shop directly to have it gone over/ completely/ checked out.

Plan is to get it mechanically sound first then start mods.

So with that said:
  • Any input on where I should have it shipped, does anyone know of a few good shops with in 30-40 miles of Burlington, MA that specialize in Disco IIs?
  • Does anyone have a checklist/ suggested plan of attack put together of items that should be done first that pertain to 04 Disco IIs specifically, replace drive shaft, etc.?

Excited about getting into this project, becoming a first time Disco owner and joining the Land Rover forum!

Best.

Download RAVE Workshop manual in PDF
Order 180 degree thermostat
Replace front drive shaft
Replace all fluids
Take care of 3 Amigos with new shuttle valve or Option B

Do all these things yourself and there is no reason to take it to a shop

Welcome! I am in Chelmsford MA. The closest Indie LR shop I know of is J White in Framingham. They are expensive of course but perform good work. Are you planning on performing work yourself?

I could do the work myself, however I don't have the space /storage/tools I would need in order to get it done at the moment. Understanding I could look at each repair/maintenance item one at a time and keep everything in the truck. I was thinking to have a shop at least give it a once over and let me weigh the options of doing it myself or paying to have it selectively done.
I knew getting into this I was going to have a new steady stream outflow of funds going forward. So if the works good then I'm happy paying a bit more where I hope "you pay for what you get" holds true.

While most any shop can give a vehicle a once over it is a little better to go to a place that specializes in Land Rovers due some of the quirks with them. J White and Robinson service would be my recommendation. JWhite is a lot closer right off route 9.

I also suggest getting yourself an Ultraguage to continually monitor your coolant temp. The idea to prevent excessive overheating for prolonged periods.

I don’t know how much money you have or how much you paid for it
but sounds like you did very little research.
You gonna take it to a shop be ready to open your wallet.

Main isdues imo

coolant flush green coolant new thermostat and ultraguage front drive shaft all fluids new battery if it’s old and clean battery terminals

I got it for a great price. So I have the funds to put some money into it if needed. Agreed on research, this came up, jumped on it b/c of price and condition.
Update: Made descision from responses I will not be bringing it to a shop outright. Will research items listed and go from there as I have the time.
