Hi forum! I did a quick search here and YouTube but I can’t find anything about the throttle lever/plate getting stuck in the closed position. I am putting the throttle cables back on my 04 Disco 4.6 after doing the valve covers but I can’t move the throttle lever open enough to feed the throttle cables back in. There is a backing plate that they hit and I cant seem to move it/get it out of the way.
Am I missing something obvious? The throttle body was loose and being moved around lots while I fought with the intake plenum and valve covers so it could have been damaged. The do move a little so the butterfly valve isn’t frozen shut.
Has anyone experienced this?
Thanks in advance folks!

That's normal. The tab will rotate with the cams. Just push on it hard. If it doesn't rotate, something is stuck at the throttle plate or throttle position sensor.
Hey miron, thanks so much for responding. I did clean the throttle plate with break cleaner so the joints may benefit from some lubricant and some tough love. Do you have a sense of where I should apply the most force? The throttle plate seems like a sensitive place and therefor a bad choice!? Again thanks for taking the time to reply, much appreciated!
I'd also lube the plate/cam bushing and just try to rotate by twisting the cams counterclockwise so they lock up against the tab and start rotating with it. it's probably ok to give the throttle plate a few taps (at the top edge) with a small piece of wood or something softer - it's pretty thick plate on a fairly large shaft.
If the TB plate is stuck this kinda proves my point over the years that it's not the TBH plate that causes them to stick. More like carbon/oil residue on the TB itself and TB housing. I've had 3 stuck ones, (2 during winter & 1 in the summer). All 3 were just caused from the TB plate being completely gross. Probably caused from a clogged OEM valve cover baffle vs say using my PCV Upgrade. I was able to take all 3 of those TB's apart, clean the TB Plate, and TB housings, with scotchbrite pads, and once back together they were smooth as silk.
Thanks for weighing in Best4x4! Thats odd as I had just cleaned the plate and housing with brake cleaner and they were both relatively clean to begin with (unless of course this is not actually clean)...
