i think i will go look at it tomorrow. the story goes the independent dealer has been driving it it keeps poping up on my Craig's list search so i emailed when it became listed as a mechanics special he said we've driving it over 700MI and the engine makes noise intermittently whatever that means. i will take some tools and go look i guess. i just got everything fixed on my 02 so i am not really in the market but i like the idea of a cdl and a newer truck. Ive heard so many 4.6l horror stories i am tempted to keep my known truck thanks for the thoughts as for a rover mechanic i am it there are like maybe 10 in our city of 70k rare breed here nearest dealer is 6 hr away
cant hurt to look right ?

I'd be nervous because a car dealer is admitting there's something wrong with it. If it was cheap and easy to fix, he would have done it.

There's no harm in checking it out, but I probly wouldn't because I think buying it is likely a mistake.

liners, lifters, rocker arms, leaking exhaust manifolds, bearings (not necessarily in order of probability) and then there's the ancillary stuff bolted to the engine. Almost impossible to diagnose over the internet although many will try.

Add in loose torque converter bolts or cracked flex plate.
