Default 04 oil leaks

I have an 04 disco that has been leaking oil. The dealer wants to do a complete engine reseal. I want to do it myself. Can anyone give me some advice? What seals do I need? I wanted to start with the oil pan and replace the oil pan gasket. They said it might be the rear main seal. Can you tell me how difficult it is to replace and what the steps are?

My dad is a retired mechanic and is going to help me but he is not familiar with land rovers. Is there a repair manual I can buy?

Thanks

Removing the transfer case and transmission is going to be difficult, you will need a special rack with brackets, not a do it yourself job at home imho.

You have access to a lift?

You can download the Rave manual for free.

First thing is to download RAVE, this will give you all the information you need.
Also determine if the rear seal is leaking, you can do that when you have the oil pan off - my guess is that the oil pan gasket is leaking anyway. Fasten the valve cover bolts, they tend to work loose.
See this thread about the oil pan gasket https://landroverforums.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=33983

Second thing is use the search, every conceivable question has been asked and answered.
