First you have a Disco 2 not a 3.
How many miles on your truck?
Have you had your front drive shaft rebuilt with new greasiable u-joints?

Hi Darover, The noise like something cracking only upon shifting before moving. After moving the vehicle runs smoothly without any noise.

Don't know how strong you are, but diveunder while the vehicle in park and not running and try turning the driveshaft as hard as you can on each side to see if you have any play in the u-joints. The lower frontu-joint can be lubed and has a grease fitting. Try lubing that. As Mike said, greasable front u-joints are an excellent idea to avoid failures and I'm sure he'll tell you some more when he comes back.
How much mileage on the truck and are you still under warranty, are other relevent informations needed to coach you right.

Could also be your brakes making that noise.

Was forgetting to ask if you checked the transmission oil level ??
