1/4 Chassis replacement labor question - 2001- Disco 2
Friends:
Yet another Disco 2 (2001, 118k miles) I've found and Im convinced I can restore it back to its glory! I can do most things but this one needs a 1/4 chassis replacement and for that, I need help. I found the replacement section and am about to order it.
My questions are these:
Does anyone have an idea how long a competent shop might take to replace this, ie, how many hours?
I've done the 1/2 chassis on a couple Discos in the past, but the 1/4 chassis seems a lot less work. This shop is quoting me 17 hours to do the job and I have no idea if that is reasonable or not?
Does anyone have a thought on this?
Whats all involved that you know of? (I've watched some youtube vids, seems straight-forward enough)
Hi it took me a few days to do mine, but that was on the floor, but consider you need to, jack it up remove the wheels for better access, to cut the chassis, remove the fuel tank, cut and prep the chassis, prep the new section fully weld both sides, prim paint underseal, replace the fuel tank, replace the wheels, so it a reasonablt time, for me as a retired 70 +, it went OK

Talk to a welding and fabrication shop. $1k to do mine - just cutting out the old and welding in new metal. Cheapest option though you’d imagine a full quarter replacement would be longer lasting.
