I switched from Shell Helix 10w 40 Full Syth to Castrol Edge 10W 60 Full Syth,. Wondering if anyone had any exp. with 10w 60 oil or if it's safe to use.

I noticed some differences .... almost immediately.

I have seen a few folks running it mostly down under in Australia though they seem happy with the results. I run 20w50 here in Georgia with no ill effects so I would think you won't have any issues

Castrol Edge Supercar 10w 60

Bottle says It's for v12s Lambos and Bugatti's .. only V8 listed is the Aston Martin V8 Vantage .. don't know anything about the Aston Martin Vantage engine .. but it's a British engine .. so thought I'd give it a try ..

There was a sound like a pop .. Oil pressure 60-30 ... dropped to 20-50 ... 180F+ oil temp hgwy .. 190-200F on gradient climb .. read theres a oil release valve in our rovers .. with a spring that opens at 50 psi ..Castrol website says the oil is for supercars and gets thicker when the engine gets hotter on the race track...

Feels like there is a drop in MPG ... loss of power .. and ... funny feeling .. I don't know. Could be in my head. But probably going back to 10w 40 .or 15w 50 synth ... wanted to see if anyone had any good experience with this oil before I change back....

Update this question after changing oil back to to Shell 10W 40 synthetic

Castrol 10W 60 was used for 2000 miles.

1) There is a small hiccup stutter at idle now. The needle is not sitting level below 1 RPM as before. Before using Castrol this did not happen.
2) A tiny little squeak has developed from somewhere around the engine
3) Oil Pressure Fell by 1-2 PSI before vs after Castrol 10w 60. I may have damaged the engine . even a little.. by driving 80 MPH with Castrol 10W 60.
4) The tick has grown a little louder
5) Gas mileage went DOWN. It improved switching back to Shell Helix 10w 40. . I don't have exact gas mileage readings. But it's improved allot.
6) Engine Temperature was higher and with bigger swings. Don't know why. But temps lower and narrower range with Shell .

Benefits of Castrol 10W 60

1) More powerful angry sounding engine. Really amazing sound. If you have a Magnaflow or stright pipe it will sound helluva better. This is the only benefit I had from using this oil.

Downsides of Shell 10W 40

1) Engine runs quieter
.

I'm in tune with the D2 Rover V8 engine .. .. something definitely feels off .. a chop skip and hiccup. It's not perfectly purring like it was before. Engine had a ryhhmic purrrrr earned over many years of frequent oil changes and maintenice .. I change oil at 1-2k or less ,, always the best petrol ,, fluids filters always changed early ..

I may have damaged the engine using Castrol Edge 10W 60 -- even if just a little. That is my honest opinion. I ran it hard pedal to metal 80-90 MPH.

The oil is too thick. It's for V12's Buggatis, Ferraris . Only V8 listed on the bottle of Castrol Edge 10w 60 was for Aston Martin V8 Vantage.... and Because 1 V8 was listed on the bottle .. and because it was Aston Martin .. I decided to take the risk and Ginny Pig it with the D2 .

Bottle oil specs also say it gets thicker as the engine temp increases. Engine temps were 205-209F highway and 180F+ oil temps highway

I read posts from other people saying how 10W 60 was okay .. because their Grandfather had a 1960s Buick and used without problems... or some other old cars .. But the Castrol Edge 10w60 is Synth not Mineral .. and it doesn't seem to be the same with this car. Just my personal experience.

Hopefully ... anyone considering using Castrol Edge Supercar 10W 60 on their Rover will consider this information . The only benefit I got was the sound. It was a decrease in performance and all the other things I listed. I'm crossing my fingers hoping I have not damaged the oil pump teeth .. or worn the engine working it so hard .. Vehicle already has 600-700 pounds extra weight with large offroad tires before the Castrol 10w 60 .. .

I will not use this oil again and would not recommend it.
