1995 Disco 1 Caliper and rotor removal-help
Hey guys,
I noticed the other day that my pads were worn down all the way to the metal. So i was going to replace the pads and then thought i might as well replace the rotor as well since they have alot of rough grooves in them. But the driver side rotor was almost gone, no joke, the thinkness was no thicker then a penny on its side and had broken away from the back of the rotor. I have never seen this before and I just had tires put on in January. Anyways I am wondering what is the process to taking off the calipers and then rotors. Also do you think my driver side caliper is shot, and not working properly anymore? So if you could tell me how to get the rotor off i can do it, i am just not sure what it all intails and dont want to get in to a bind. Any help would be great thanks!

You drove your way thru a rotor and didn't even notice???????????????
How mechanical are you?
On the front axle, if you have a bad caliper, you have to replace, or rebuild both.
Have you ever done this sort of work along with repacking the bearings and servicing the swivels and setting the preload, if not let a mechanic do it.

Disco Mike, I dont drive that, my wife does I just noticed the squeeling about 2 weeks ago and havnt had a chance to get to it to now. I am pretty mechanical, i have a 95 S-10 custom I have done and a tiburon and both i work on myself. But I am not to sure about the Rover thats why I am asking. And no I dont really know how to pack then , I'll just buy new ones. But if you can help me with guiding me how to take the rotors off that would be great. I have seen you on here a lot giving good advice. Thanks agian

You have to pack hub bearings whether you reuse your old ones or install new.
Get a copy of the manual in pdf, google "rave site:green-oval.com"
In short, to replace the rotor, you have to:
Remove the two 12pt 13mm bolts that retain the caliper to the swivel housing and hang the caliper out of the way with something like a wire coat hanger.
Remove the drive flange from the hub.
Remove the hub lock nut, lock tab, hub nut and spacer.
Pull off the hub/rotor assembly
Undo the bolts on the back side of the hub that holds he rotor on
Reverse to refit.
Timken SET 37 or SKF BR37 hub bearings x2 per hub.
RTC3511 hub seal (better than the factory Disco seal)

palcing the hub back into the wheel after removal also helps get the rotor bolts off. Gives you a little more leverage. Remember the lock-tite for the bolts when putting everything back together.
Google Rave CD, or search on here. You can download a copy free, and it has the whole procedure on it.

I forget not everyone has one. I didn't either for years, but I think I've blocked that out. LOL
