Default 1995 Discovery Center Diff. Not Unlocking?

I have a specific question about my center Differential lock. I bought the truck used and after driving it a few times I noticed that the front tires scuff whenever cornering. After some research, and diagnosis I came to the conclusion the my center diff. was locked. When I tried the lever located on the center console it was frozen(rusted) solid. I then removed the center console to gain access to the shifter and linkages. I verified that the spigot which locks and unlocks the diff. was free and could be turned easily and seems to be working perfectly. The problem is after freeing up the lever putting it all back together the diff. remains locked regrdless of what position the lever is in. Does this mean my transfer case is shot? or what? I have no idea how long the truck may have been driven with the diff. locked. Is there anything else that could be causing my differential to be stuck locked. How can I tell if my truck has been significantly damaged by driving it with the differential locked? Please help. Thank you, Johnny

Hi PhasersSetToKill.
Obviously the difflock switch located behind the spindle is not working,or else the warning light would have been on.Remove the 3 bolts holding the spindle and lift the housing out.Check if the spindle was properly located in the groove of the selector shaft.
Regards.

Are there any other tests I can perform before tearing anything apart?

Mine actually works. Bought my 98 disco last Oct and today was the first time I switched the lever to low gear(test to see if it would work). I thought that thediff lightwas supposed to come on as well as a buzzing noise?

In order to lock your locking differential you would have to pull your transfer case lever to the left, the locking differential will lock in high or low range. A light on your dash will come on when the differential is locked.

Have you ever seen such a thing as you are describing occur? it sounds like quite a long shot. I however have began removing the housing bolts as it is the best lead I have had so far. It is just slow going on account of the lovely upstate NY weather. Thanks
