Default 1996 Disco 300 TDI loss of power

Hi,

I have a 300 TDI Disco thats seems to have no guts in it. Its fine on the flat or down hill but as soon as you show it an incline (you could even include speed bumbs!) it just cant handle it and slows right down. It has a de-cat down pipe fitted with the centre silencer removed and the EGR has also been removed and blanked off with the intercooler cleaned.

Any ideas?

When was the last time the fuel filter was changed?
Is the turbo working? A turbo engine with no turbo is nothing more than a paper weight.
Does your intercooler have a hole in it?

Hello, it could be a lot of reasons. It looks like a problem at the injection pump, but if your disco is the model with some "electronic control" and with the automatic gearbox it could be also a reaction of the electronic circuit to avoid a definitive bad issue on your engine.
It could be also a leakage on the feeding circuit on one or many points and with nearly no visible point of leakage. But there is nevertheless entry of air on one or more points and this causes the misfunctionning or the drastic reduction of torque even if no alert is signalled. If you trust a garage for the maintenance of your disco it is time to start seriously to speak with them. It can be also the "feeding pump inside the gazoil tank" or the "manual pump" on the righthandside of the engine.
All the best,
