That's a start. I would offer the guy $1000 cash and then start fixing stuff a little bit at a time. The secret is to do DIY as much as you can. There is not much on a DI that requires a trip to a mechanic.

I completely agree with you. I started this quest with DIY in mind. I know a great deal about nothing when it comes to working on vehicles so you and the others will probably want to push me off of a cliff by the time it's all over. I think that a good repair manual would also be beneficial. Do they publish those for the Land Rovers? Maybe a "How To" for Discos? The only time I have ever worked on a car was replacing a heater core. I bought a book on the truck and followed the instructions. Went well!

Click on the link for the RAVE manual in my signature. It's the same manual the Rover dealer techs use.

Listen before this spring I did not know anything about fixing these truck. As you can see in my signature I done a great deal of work on my truck just by asking questions, reading the Rave manual and getting my hands dirty. Download the Rave CD is step 1 then ask as many questions as it takes. Just remember the shop manual in the Rave CD is what the dealer uses so with it you are greatly empowered.

I agree, offer $1000 cash, if they take it great, if not then pass and keep looking.
Fix the ignition first, then do a correct tune up because you know they used the cheapest stuff they could.
Then replace the VSS and all the fluids and just take it one repair at a time.

Thanks a lot for all of your help. Will do everything you said and we'll take it from there. Thanks for being cool to the new guy and thanks for not crapping on me for asking too many questions. The folks at the other two LR forums that I found are not very nice and pride themselves on tearing apart posts and rubbing it in the posters face.

Thanks again.

Oh, we were all the new guy once.
On this forum we try and keep it family friendly and helpful to everyone.
Nobody knows everything, but we all know some, and you put it all together and we still do not know it all.
And remember, the only stupid question is the one not asked.
