1998 LR Discovery purchase question
If he did the work himself he wont have receipts.
Offer him $6, he will counter offer, then you decided how much more you can come up with.
I was thinking about this at work today and I too would be willing to pay more for a well maintained truck.

We settled on a price and I go to pick it up monday next week. He will provide manual and records. Thanks for all the tips, i really appreciate. I will most likely hang around and post questions when problems arise. Woot!!! 98 Landy Disco owner!
I agree that there should be receipts (records hopefully) of things that have been done to the vehicle. I keep receipts for even oil/filter purchases to track maintenance which may be going overboard, lol.
I'm (as quoted earlier in this thread) one of the newer LR owners who went in kinda blind with an older Disco purchase. I researched 'issues' with the models I was looking for which I tried to inspect while test driving. I decided to pay a little more for one that had a stack of receipts, lots of recent work and a few upgrades that I had planned on doing anyway.
Maybe there is a local LR dealer that you could bring it to with the owner. I did that after the fact on mine and had them do a used vehicle review to go over it and tell me the good, the bad and the ugly of it's condition. A tear in the seat didn't matter so long as it's in great working condition mechanically.
Also...a vehicle is only worth what you can get for it...it's a buyers market out there right now I think...

Congrats on your new rig!
I have followed the information posted on this site for a few years. Never needed to post myself due to the wealth of knowledge already available. I followed this thread as I am the one selling the '98. fgallardo backed out of the deal today for a 4 runner from a family member, which I cant blame him. If someone gave me a vehicle I could not pass it up. Maybe next time. Thanks to all of you that gave him solid advice.
To MarkG for the rational thought process, and to Spike for coming around and realizing we have all initially paid less in the beginning, but eventually made up the difference over time.
