Default 1999 disco with 19999 miles

So i recently bought my first disco for just 1k. It had a overheating problem that thanks to this forum I have been able to solve (i think). It has the three amigos and the tick which I can tell should be expected from a disco of this age and use. I had a few questions.

What is the highest miles you guys have seen on a D2?
I don't know anything about the computer that tests for these codes is there any helpful threads I should check out to learn more?
Is there anyone in the Charleston area that has one of the amigos that could lend me a hand?
What other major failures should I keep my eyes open for on a 1999 with 199999 miles?

Thanks,
Brian

Read my major service list posted at the top of this section. At your mileage, depending on what has been done in the past, you will be ready for a timing chain set, an oil pump repair kit and possibly a cam and lifter which could be causing your tick if they have not been done in the past.
As for how long can these trucks last, kind of depends on how well they have been maintained, I know of a few in the high 200 to 300,000 mile range here in Colorado.

Thanks Mike,
I printed up that list and plan on checking off services as I can afford them. As for the timing, oil pump and cam and lifter I hope I have a little time before that. The disco runs great for what I paid and I would like to keep it alive for as long as possible.

I thought I had it remedied but as I was bleeding the system I had fluid raise up out the tank. So now I am trying to make my next step. I got this disco cheap and it has other problems as well so I am thinking about Barr or Blue Devil. My temp is back down and the coolant rises slowly so I am thinking it is a small leak in the head. I want to make this Disco work out and I know that In the long run I need to do the head gaskets. So weighing my options now.

It comes down to a few things when your talking about doing a head gasket replacement. A: How mechanical are you? B ) Do you have any basic tools (screw drivers, wrenches, sockets, breaker bar etc)? C) You can do the heads yourself for $300-600 and a couple of weekends. D) Have your heads machined. E) Does the tick start once the truck is warm or is it always there when engine is on?
Good luck.

I am fairly capable under thehood. I have basic tools besides a torque wrench. I am not afraid to learn and after reading many posts on this forum I am more afraid of being cheap and using the Barrs or blue devil. I have helped a firend do his head on a series 2a which is much more simple. This engine seems to be straight forward. I am less intimidated by it than when I bought it. I still have my 2a so I have a Rover to drive in the mean time so I just need to make the funds to do the Gaskets.
As for the tick it happens once the engine warms.

So I tried one more time to properly bleed my system. No good. Now my heat doesn't work as well. I am sure I need to do the heads so I am done messing around and wasting coolant. Does anyone have a good suggestion for where I should buy the head gasket repair kit? I found one on ebay for $160 including the bolts. Is this a fair price? It's from Miami British. Does anyone have any dealings with them? Last of all is there anything else I should be replacing while I am in there?

Thanks for all your help guys.
