1999 Disco II with oil leak
I have a 1999 Disco II with an oil leak that appears to be coming from the oil pan. I recently took it in to the dealer and they said it was the oil pan as well as the Crucifix seal.
Can anyone tell me what the Crucifix seal is? I checked with a local mechanic and he has never heard of suech a seal.
Secondly, can anyone tell me what to expect when changing it, where it is located, and whatother names it may have? I know changing the oil pan gasket can take some time.
Thanks in advance.

I have never heard of that seal. The oil pan seal is a quick replacement, in and out in an hour.
Make sure to flush your engine first using 6 qts. of ATF before you drop the oil pan.
So drain the oil, leave the old filter add the ATF and let it idle for 20 minutes. Then drain the engine, remove the pan, clean the inside of the engine using 1 or 2 cans of carb cleaner, inspect the oil pick up tube, make sure the bolts are tight and the screen is clean, then reinstall a new seal or sealant and you are done.
