Default 1999 Discovery I HELP!!!!

can someone please help me? this is my first rover, and i am having a couple of problems. first thing is, sometimes it won't start. it won't do anything: no lights, nothing. then by some twist of fate, after a minute, it will start. i can sometimes go a few days before this will happen, and sometimes it will happen quite often. i read about the "spider" and after i took everything apart.............no spider! it has actually cut off while driving also.
my next question is i installed an aftermarket stereo and can't for the life of me get the engine noise out. i have tried grounding in many different places but no luck. HELP!!!!

sounds like a bad battery connection, I had another car with engine noise thru the radio, went to radio shack and got a filter...worked great, probably get a filter at a good automotive supply.
hope this helps

ok, 2 questions... What year is your truck? I have a 97 and it has a common ground system running to a factory amp behind the glove box. Adding a ground loop isolator might fix your whining, but if you have this system, you will have to get a module to separate the grounds and then bypass the amp...

#2- did you have the cut-off problem before you installed the stereo? It sounds like an ignition switch to me as well, but you may want to check your inertia switch. Should be a pushbutton under the hood by the firewall passenger side, depending on year.

its not the inertia switch. can these switches go bad? i just want to be sure i check everything before i have to spend $300.00 for an ignition control assembly, or would i just need the "electrical" part of the switch?

I have heard of people having problems with the ignition switches. Not sure on a fix besides replacement. Have you checked and cleaned your positive side as well? The fact that it has just died while driving points me to the switch. Also, if it was the inertia switch, I think it should flash the hazards or something.

I am just shooting in the dark here, though. I am sure someone else will chime in with some ideas...
