Default 1st Disco and got 3 amigos free

Proud new owner of a td5 2001 ,,

Great to drive and love it already ,, only problem is an intermittent issue where 3 lights appear on the dash,, I drove 350 miles home yesterday and they were off for the first 165 until i stopped for a coffee ,, I started car and they came on ,, was worried that something was up so pulled over and stopped again ,, Started the car and they were gone,,
Woke up today and been out and about 4 times and they have been on twice and off twice ,, run a google search and found this place ,,

I presume I have to take the car to the dealers and pay them a fortune to tell me what I have to get fixed,, I have taken the battery off for an hour so will see what that does also as It appears that sometimes resets them ,, Does anyone know someone up the east of scotland who can run a cheap diagnostic,

Default Three amigos

There are several threads and one long sticky on the web site regarding the three amigos. Causes can be anything from excessive break dust to speed sensors to ABS modulator. Only way to tell is to read the codes - this is done not with a regular scanner, but with a special one. One brand is the ABS Amigo. Search for this and the manufacturer's web site gives a listing of all the applicable codes, I believe.

You can probably buy a code reader cheaper than going to a dealer to have them read. And, most of the fixes are fairly easy do-it-yourself tasks. Some on this site, myself included, loan or rent out the reader.

This is by far the most common Disco II bug. Only way to approach it is to have the codes read, search the forum for the code to figure out what is the problem and replace it. Mine is the Driver side front wheel speed sensor. I havn't fixed mine yet. At least it's not a big problem. I mean it's not like your Disco is about to leave you stranded or anything. Just annoying lights on the dash, and your off road capabilities will not be up to par.
