Hi, been reading your forum and have got a lot of info. I just bought a 2001 series 2 and have a few questions. Is there any domestic wheels that will fit or do we have to buy Land Rover rims? The front drive shaft has grease nipples, does this mean that it has been rebuilt? The manufacture date is 07/00 so does it have the cdl? Any info would be appreciated, Thanks.

After market rims? Not many choices, check www.atlanticbritish.com and your wheel shops.

Unless the front driveshaft has 3 grease zerks then no, it still needs to be rebuilt.

Yes it has a CDL just no shifter.

Thanks alot Spike. The driveshaft has a zerk in the front u-joint, in the middle u-joint , and it looks like the zerk is missing from the u-joint closest to the transfer case. There is a hole there with nothing in it. I know, plug it. How long before i can view the photo gallery ?

There are some other rims that will fit on the D2s. just sort of have to look around. Some of the BMW, ones off of the X5 fit i believe, and dodge/Chrysler rims will work as long as they have the correct back spacing.

The CDL (center locking differential) locks both driveshafts together so they both get equal amounts of power no matter what.
This is great for off roading, deep snow, ice, pulling the boat up a slippery boat launch...just remember NOT to use it on dry roads.

You should rebuild it or have it rebuilt. See the propshaft rebuild thread in the write-ups section.

The reality is, even if it did have all three grease fittings in place I'd rebuild it, unless you know for a fact it's been serviced properly. 3 fittings isn't a magic bullet. In fact, if not serviced correctly, serviceable u-joints won't last as long as sealed.
