Default 2 inch coil spring spacers question/s

Happy Friday. Researched but couldn’t find my answers.

In my new to me 99 d2, I’m going to be replacing with all new spring coils, ball joints, rotors, etc etc etc.

I want a 2 inch lift. I don’t off road. Little sand and dirt. Nothing major. I just love the look. Going for the Terra spacers as I can’t afford full 2 inch lift kits right now.

My questions - truck has 4 coil springs. If I get 2 inch spacers can I buy just stock size replacement coils for rear and front as well as regular size front and rear shock absorber struts? Or I need longer shock absorbers / rear coils as well? Or can I just install the spacers with my stock new coil springs and shock struts?

thnx for help

2 inch you can do just spacers. Or you can put the rear coils in the front and do just spacers in the back, same effect.

Thanks! I read about sag and such. I’m guessing stock rear coils are longer on rear than front? I hadn’t looked at that.

I know sag will happen after some time but is there a downside in putting them on the rear and front? Or like you said it’ll be the same if just put rear on front? I’m trying to make as high as I can .

so can just get stock spring coils, new stock shock absorbers struts and don’t have to worry about extended brake lines unless it’s a 3 inch spacer?

thnx

Generally two to three inches is your max before you need to start extending things. If I recall the brake lines get a little tight just as the shocks bottom out. The question really becomes if you are going to see the suspension at full extension as you might in off-road. If it reaches full extension relatively slowly like in a frame twist situation and you do it very slowly likely nothing is damaged. However if you going to take the truck to Baja and jump it and the suspension is going to get to full extension violently and repeatedly you could break something. You can get a little bit more extension out of the brake lines by removing the retaining clip from the hard line that holds it in the bracket and bend the hard line down a little bit more so that it at full extension the rubber line is not super tight. As I recall the extra height in the front from using the stock rear springs comes from the fact that they are stronger not that they are longer.

If you are installing factory height springs, with 2" spacers.

No, you do not need 2" longer shocks. Spacers raise the coil springs perch (plate that coil sits on), so mounting area for shock is raised up with perch. keeping it at factory length. Now, if you remove sway bar or make some other type of modification...then longer shocks might be necessary. But, you said you'd be doing mild off roading...so, you should be good.

I have a set of machined aluminum 2" spacers if anyone is interested. I am unable to use them due to the garage height.

I would do two things with a 2” spacer, on either coil or SLS / rear air cars:

1) I always flip the front brake hose bracket and swap side to side for safety, so the front rubber brake hoses don’t get pulled tight.

2) Then on the rear, to prevent the rear shock from clunking at full articulation, a really easy fix is add lower shock mount extenders, then you don’t have to buy longer rear shocks. Something like this ---> https://www.ratel-x.com/product-page...shock-droppers. Rear shocks can clunk at full articulation with a 2” puck lift.

thanks for this info.

so I installed 2 inch spacers on front and rear.

front are fine.

rear after 2 weeks now sagged back down to pre lift levels.

Wondering your thoughts why? I bought new coils from AB ( not heavy or medium duty ), so that may be why?

lucky 8 is telling me medium sized coils should work but remove the spacer?

in just don’t know why the sag after 2 weeks. Unless the coils just aren’t that good I bought.

but in general, you can use 2 inch blocks with standard sized rear coil springs?

also do you recommend if using spacers in rear to then just use front sized coils on rear too ?

thnx

thanks. So do you suggest then if I have 2 inch spacers in rear to then use front spring coil sized coils? I used rear sized coils with the blocks and now I have a sag. Thnx
