so I've already got a 2" lift via springs and shocks but I want more.. I want to be able to fit at least a 33" tire maybe something bigger. what problems would I run into putting 2" spacers under my existing lift besides the obvious, I already need new brake lines so I'd change those over to steel braided, and I'm already looking at a new drive shaft so that wouldn't be a problem. what else would I need to change to accomodate 4" total lift

 

ABS extenders, caster arms, longer shocks or shock mount drops on the back.

You could do just one more inch, fit 33s, and still be fine. Hell, I'm gonna stuff 33s under 2" next time I buy tires.

 

Have you considered a 2" body lift? I don't know if anyone makes one for a DII, but if they do that would be an option that would not impact steering and also not impact COG as much as more suspension lift.

 

I'd like to stay away from a body lift. I was already planning on getting lowered shock mounts in the rear and new lower towers in the front so I guess I could honestly just buy bigger springs

 

No. With a 4" lift your steering will really be out of whack. You'll need more, as mentioned.

 

I had 5 inches of lift with 2 inch pucks and 3 inch springs BEFORE I added a heavy front bumper and winch and, as stated above, your steering will certainly be out of wack because your caster will be off (angle of steering axis to ground). Basically, your axle rolls forward too much on its axis and if you picture a bicycle with a bent front fork and the tire leaning backwards, you get the idea... hard to control. I was fine driving with 3 inches. When I added another two my 15 year old front driveshaft blew... probably because of a combination of age and the new angle. With the new weight and time I've settled to about 3.5 inches of lift.

I added +4 brake lines and +2 shocks, but the ABS lines were fine once I re routed them.

I'd stick with 3 inches.

Btw I did all of that for 33's. And they rubbed! So I had to get spacers. Now they sometimes rub the fender.

A cautionary tale.

Also, you can save a lot on new springs by getting Bronco springs. They fit with minor modification, but they are STIFF for our trucks. Crazy stiff. Up to 6 inches of lift depending on how much you chop off. I think they are 90 bucks a pair.

 

wow thanks for that.. I'm eventually replacing my drive shaft (Tom woods if I can get the money) and I'd also like to get new caster arms (terrafirma probably). along with new brake lines. I think for now I'm just going to get a set of 3" rte springs and maybe a 1" spacer along the lines.

also Charlie you said your lift settled around 3.5 inches after bumpers and a winch? but it was originally 5 inches..?

 

That's an estimate but yes. The springs are shorter by combination of the extra weight and just natural settling. Front is lower than the back now and they used to be even.

 

what bumpers and winch are you running? because mine barely sag at all with about 4000 miles and bumpers and a winch on them.. the front is still higher than the back

 

ARB and an Outland 12,500. It may be springs. I have TF MD +3's. I think I need HD in the front.
