Default 2000 Disco II alarm problem?

The truck won't start. Put the key in and lights go on dimly and no starter starting. After the key is out I can hear what sounds like a motor running under the hood cycling on and off for a while than stops. Got out and turned the alarm on then off different times then the truck started again.

Looking in the manual it seems like the truck is not starting due to an alarm problem.

This morning first thing same thing.

I disconnected the battery for a while and reconnected it and now it seems to be fine again.

Any ideas?

I did some searching but found alarm issues for the Disco I only. Saw that sometimes the door switches get corroded and go bad but can't find where they are on my Disco II...

This happened to me today for the first time at the gas station! I fiddled with the wheel and the ignition and finally got it to start. My break pedal went soft and I could not open the gas tank door. It was as if there was no battery at all.

However, is it possible that you just need a battery change? Last time my battery died I had the same issues as you: dim lights, initial cycling then stop. Can you test the battery?

Oops. Saw that you got it started again. Not a battery problem.

Help! It happened again. All of a sudden I go to start the truck and the key turns and dash lights go on but no starter. Can hear the fuel pump run a few minutes after.

I read about the spider issues with the Disco 1. Is it the same with a disco 2?

I read that I could just have an aftermarket alarm placed and it will bypass the whole issue. True?

Truck is now immobile in the dirveway.

Last time I disconnected the battery for a while and it went back to normal. this time no go with that.

Have you tested your battery? Checked the connections? replaced the battery in your fob?

Truck Battery checked ok recently and looks like everything lights up bright.

I can change the battery in the fob though, good idea. Do I need to retrain the fob after the battery change? Can anyone point me to the method to retrain (Probably in the manual?)

Anyone happen to know the battery size for the fob so I can get one on my way home in our other truck?

Is the alarm system same for the Disco 1 and 2? Just so I can get to work with the Disco 1 spider data if needed.

Hope it is just a battery.

no, the alarms are different. They did away with the spider in 98-99 on the D1 because of the problems.

Still not starting.

Here is what I did so far:

1. Disconnected the battery. This worked one time since then doesn't help

2. Tried various remote key lock / unlock sequences. No help

3. Changed the fob battery CR 2032 no change.

4. Found a key in door sequence (unlock once, lock 5 times, unlock once, lock 5 times. The 1515 code) This DID change something. Still not starting though. Before this sequence I would put in the key and the dash lights would all light up but no starter starting. NOW I put the key in and dash is black, no lights and still no starter starting. As if the door code sequence made the alarm issue worse.

5. Found a procedure of leaving the key in position 2 in the ignition and disconnecting the battery then reconnecting while still in position 2. This did nothing.

Does anyone have any other ideas? 2000 Disco 2.
