I have a 2000 Land Rover Discovery II (with Secondary Air) that about 6 months (and 6000 miles) ago after having a local shop do the head and valve jobs on both heads I replaced the head gaskets with Atlantic British Composite set. I used new head bolts and torqued to spec. I replaced valve cover gaskets and other gaskets that came in the kit from Atlantic British. At that time I put in new lifters, replaced the spark plugs and spark plug wires as well. The Disco has about 106,000 on it now.

Recently it started running hot. I have not let it get to the red on the gauge. I just replaced the radiator, water pump and thermostat. It will idle fine and the temp gauge will remain steady at dead center until about 20 minutes has passed. Then it starts creeping up and coolant will start to leak out of the bleeder screw on the top radiator hose. There are no other leaks and both fans appear to be operating fine.

Also, it idles fine... however, when I accelerate I get backfiring through the intake. I removed and cleaned the MAF Sensor using CRC MAF Cleaner as per instructions. Still no improvement.

I went to Advance Auto and they told me my fault codes are:

P0305
P0733
P0734
P1590

Just got a new job and I need to get it running.

 

You have a misfire on cylinder 5

1590 is your 3 amigos

Well what kind of wires did you go with?

You can try to switch wire 5 with wire 6 and see if the misfire moves. You are not supposed to clean these MAFs btw, it ruins them in short order.

 

What grade of gas are you using?
Have you flushed your radiator?

 

I always use Premium gas.

Where can I get detailed instructions (with pictures) on how to flush the coolant system?

 

Go to the "write up" section.
It's not hard, no pics needed.
Just remove the lower radiator hose, reattach, fill with water, turn on heater run engine for 15 min, cool for 15, drain.
Refill and repeat until the water comes out clean.
Then refill with any aluminum safe coolant.
Do NOT use DexCool.
