2000 Discovery overheating
My 2000 Disco started overheating about a week ago. Seems to get hot as i am driving around town at lower speeds. Fans all seem to be working ok, I changed the thermostat and flushed system but it still does it. It will overheat after about 15 minutes of driving.One thing I noticed is that the fluid in the tank really gets to gurgling and boiling early on. Anyone have any ideas? Is there maybe an issue with the tank cap? What is the trick there? What about water pump? Thanks for any advice.

Stop driving it, every time you let it over heat it gets closer to being toast and needing to be replaced.
Do you know how to bleed the system, if not get back to us. Get it to a shop and have a coolant pressure test done so you can find your leak, be it head gaskets or whatever, and get it repaired ASAP.

Thanks for the advice. The truck has 126,000 miles. I have it at the garage as we speak. We thought it might need a new tank cap but that didn't do the trick. How do you go about bleeding the system? I'll relay the info in case the garage doesn't know. Like I said, it can set there and idle for a long time without overheating but as soon as you drive it 15 minutes, it starts heading toward the red zone. We also flushed and refilled coolant today after changing the thermostat yesterday. Hope we can get to the bottom of this problem tomorrow. Anyone have a clue as to what it might be?

They know how to do it. Thanks to Spike, now I do too. There is no coolant actually leaking from the truck. It just keeps getting hot and regurgitating the coolant out of the coolant tank overflow hose. So, I am looking at fans, fan motors, cooling sensors, water pump, etc.. Anything else I should check? Thanks for input.

That sounds like a leaking head gasket, it is pumping exhaust gas into the cooling system and over pressurising it.
Have them to a exhaust gas check on the coolant, there is a strip, like what you use to test the chlorine in a pool, they stick it into the coolant, if it turns "X" color your good, "Y" color you have a leak.
