Smile 2001 discovery 11 new owner issues

Hi, New to the disco and to the site. Lots of info. Just bought this, love the way it handles but have issues. It starts and idles, spits and sputters until comes up to temperature, then it will go but no power. try to give it throttle and it goes slower. You must feather gas pedal in order to go,cannot get it to go over 2500 rpms. What is the problem?installed new spark plugs, air filter and spray cleaned mass air flow sensor.appreciate any info.thanks

Oh forgot to mention we are over 100 miles from a dealer

First get your code read, 2nd never clean the MAF just to be cleaning it usually you will kill it.
How many miles on it, is it going thru coolant and or do you smell coolant in the exhaust when you first start it?

thanks for the quick response. We will get the code read, new to the disco we didn't know never to clean the MAF they sell a special cleaner, It has 84,000 miles and we don't smell coolant in the exhaust or when we first start it. Will get back to post when we get some code.

codes can be read for free at many auto parts stores. Don't pay $89 for a diagnostic code read at many shops.

I had those symptoms of no power with a clogged fuel filter on an old small block chevy with EFI. Driving home on the freeway it had the most power with the lightest of pedal pressure and would slow down as I gave it more.

This sounds like weak fuel psi to me, you will need to check the fuel pressure.
The fuel pump is easy to replace.
As long as you use the proper MAF cleaner and follow the directions to the letter you should be fine.
You can rent a fuel pressure tester.
Dont worry about going to a dealer, 95% of the time you dont need one.

Question 2001 disco issues

How do you go about testing the fuel pressure. I looked under the car ,can't find any fitting to put a tester on ? Do I need to pull up the carpet, if so it doesn't look user freindly for removing.
What is the pressure suppose to be ?
Really appreciate the info ,was thinking along this line or maybe a plugged
screen but didn't know how to get to it or where to begin with what problem could be.
thanks
