2001 discovery 2
Hello all,I acquired a 2001 discovery 2 a couple years ago.. I've been very happy with it.. along the way I've had issues mostly small.. however the gauge or cluster doesn't work.. I'm thinking it's a ground but I'm not sure.. the cluster lights up but the needles do nothing.. I found what appears to be a ground wire underneath the steering wheel that is ripped off of it's eyelet... I'm not sure where the wire is located or if it's factory original.. the eyelet is the only thing remaining I can't locate the wire that was attached to it.. any help would be appreciated
When you say “lights up” do you mean that the warning lights illuminate when you turn the key is in the ON position or do you mean that instrument illumination lights turn on when you turn on the headlights? They use different circuits with the warning lights using the same ground as the gauges.
this is the location of what appears to be a ground of some sort.. is this OEM?

So I wasn't able to check if the dummie lights lit up on the cluster.. battery was dead.. I try to start and run it enough to keep the battery up.. evidently I waited too long... although I managed to snap a couple pics of some of this wire hackery that happened prior to me acquiring it.
Wow...that's some questionable wiring. Do you have access to the D2 electrical circuit PDF? I've found it to be invaluable:
