Yarmouth Port.

FYI, I did two seafoam treatments in the last 18K miles or so, the valves looks clean but the carbon on the pistons and head is pretty heavy. just an observation. everything else looks pretty good for the milage.

What happened to the engine? Sure is a lot of sludge and carbon.

I'm sorry, can you point out the sludge, i must be blind, dont see it. The only explanation for the carbon i can guess at is the previous owner had it till 86K, ran regular gas, land rover did all the maint up to that point. so i dont know, i run 93 octane. a engine builder friend of mine thinks it looks ok for the milage.

head are getting checked on monday, then back together by next weekend.

Thank for posting. Jay

Whoa... Not attacking you. Maybe just the way some of the pics look on my old laptop but a couple pics look like there was sludge on the cylinders but probably just a carbon build up. Good luck on the rebuild. It's a great feeling when you start it back up and it runs like new.

That engine looks about par for the course for a cast aluminum engine with questionable maintenance with dino oil and regular gas for 80k miles. No sludge just varnish which is harmless and the pistons tops and valves will clean up fine. Just stick with a good HDEO like rotella, delo, delvac, M1 TDT etc.

I agree, we finally got the T6 in our area, i will be pooting that in, after the work is done. i was using rotella synthetic since i bought it. I have yet to do an oil test though.

Have a great day, Jay

That'll be nice to get those shiny heads back on! Actually can't wait to do mine when those gaskets go...
