Default 2001 Discovery occasional no start in the cold

like the title says, my '01 will occasionally not start. this only happens in cold weather that is at or below freezing.
the Rover has a new battery and is driven every day.

the last time this happened it was late at night and cold. my son and i went to try to jump it the next morning but it fired right up with no assistance. it was slightly warmer that morning than the night before.

when turning the key the Rover sounds normal and healthy and turns over just fine but never catches and starts.

anyone run into this before? any places to look first? since it's cold out right now and the Rover is parked on the street, i'd like to minimize my time in the low temps.

thanks,

Check the voltage on your battery. Just because it's new, doesn't mean it's healthy or otherwise up to the task. I'd want to see at least 12.8 after sitting overnight.

What's the CCA spec on the battery?

How cold are we talking? I’m wondering about a bit of frozen water in a fuel line? Most of the 91 octane fuels around here don’t contain ethanol (thankfully), but then the possibility of water exists. Maybe try a bottle of gas (petrol)-line antifreeze?

temps finally got above 40 F for a few days here in the Midwest and the Rover fired right up. my son has been driving it with no issues for the past several days.

we did try starting it every day during the cold snap, think 32 F down to 0 F. it was always a no go and, of course, too cold to try to diagnose. once the temps got above 40 degrees Fahrenheit the Rover started right up like nothing is/was wrong and has been driving just fine.

the battery tested fine and even with jumper cables attached would not start in the sub freezing temps.

i'm really at a loss as to where to look for the problem.

sounds like an electrical contact (or lack of) issue.....could be anywhere fuel or spark harness connectors ....since you did not say it sputtered or popped...probably on the 'spark' side....next time...pull a plug wire and check for spark....or hook up a diagnostic code reader and see if any codes pop up....
