Default 2001 Discovery se

Well I thank you for your info on the 2003-2004 disco's.

https://landroverforums.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=21866

I've found a very low mileage 2001 disco (I believe se7) 59k on the clock.

automatic, has all the bells and whistles for around 8k.

Any know issues i need to look for. I figure I would ask the questions. It looks really well taken care of I'm going to go look at it tomorrow.

Will somebody 6'-1" be able to drive it ok with 2 car seats. It looks a little shorter than the 2003-2004 model. I think they grew about 7".

Also is this one a super unleaded disco as well?

What should I look for if I can go look at it?

Thanks again for all your help.

I can address several of your concerns.

At 59k, you're due for the 60k service. This is a thorough service, but unless you're prepared to do it yourself you need to realize that the dealer will charge about $1000 for the 60k service. It is a big deal, and must not be neglected.

I am also 6'1" tall and have 2 boys ages 3 and 4, both in car seats. It does not present a problem for me, but were I any taller I can see that it may. There is not much in the way of leg-room for backseat passengers, and it's only slightly better in the front seats! The 2001 is exactly the same inside as the '03 & '04 models, the only significant difference is the engine.

You will have to use super-unleaded, but don't make a bigger deal of it than it really is. You'll have a 25 gallon tank, which you'll be refueling after 22-23 gallons of fuel have been consumed. The difference in cost for a full 25 gallons of premium is only $5.

Just take it on an extended test drive and try everything out more than once. Make sure there are no lights on. Floor it a few times and make sure it's smooth. Also, if there's an underlying issue flooring it may trigger the code that lights up the dash so you'll want to know before you buy it. Make sure you're getting both key fobs, they're expensive to replace and I'm not aware of a dealer-alternative. Make sure the ABS works and that the dash/fuses haven't been tampered with to conceal a fault.

I'd also tell you to check to see if the front drive shaft has been rebuilt, but with that mileage it probably has not unless the current owner is a very astute Rover enthusiast. That having been said, be prepared to spend another $200 to have it rebuilt- it will save you the cost (and headache) of replacing a $7000 transmission.

You should check to see if it has the CDL or not, some '01 models did and some did not. DiscoMike can tell you exactly what to look for under the truck to check the drive shaft and to check for CDL.

I'm sure there's more, but my post is long enough already! Some of the others will add thing for you to check out too.

Good luck with the truck! Try to get it for $6500.

Looks like I have my work cut out on a test drive.

It is a dealer car. They have all the paperwork for what has been done also.

I'll make sure I have alot of ammunition with me when i look at the truck.

I've been looking at the 60k service it looks like a lot of work but I'm ok on doing the work due to I dont want to buy a nice car for the wife and it get destroyed due to neglect.

thanks again

Glad to here that you found a car you like, I have a 2001 Discovery SE7. Something just to keep in mind is that between 80000 - 90000 miles you will probably have to replace the headgaskets which can cost between $1100 and $2400 depending on where you get it done. Also try and find out if it is still under warranty, because with those low miles it may still have one. Good luck and hope the car works out

Well, now that you have seen all the bad stuff, my only comment is they are a great truck and if you can, beat that price down by $1000 to $1500 to be more in line with current prices, granted it does have low mileage, but try for less money.
