Default 2001 wheels and spare confusion

I have Discovery I models and a 2001 Discovery II SD. Suffering a flat on the road with the Discovery II, I was very surprised to find that the spare wheel and carrier were the bolt pattern of a Discovery I, not of a Discovery II! Are the tailgates interchangeable or, apparently, just the spare tire carriers? Looks like more mounting bolts for the spare carrier on the Discovery II. Why in the world would a mechanic switch this? P.O. was a wealthy woman in Martha's Vineyard who only trusted experts. Common surprise or a unique issue?

Never assume anything, people mess with trucks and cars, they may have had a shunt in the rear end. Check the lug nut arrangement/dimensions in RAVE.

I thought its 27mm. 28mm if someone used an impact wrench and loosen the caps.

I have solid lug nuts; they are 27mm. But even the OEM stainless capped ones are 27mm unless they've been mangled to the point of uselessness. If you rip the stainless cap off they are 25mm nuts.

I got a 1 1/8" wrench on my (18" wheel) lugs today. Weird size. Might have had a little wiggle room, but not much.

Seems like 28 mm.

1 1/16" would be 27 mm. My 1 1/16" socket wouldn't fit over them...but did work on the spare tire nutcaps.

Most nuts and bolts on a D2 are metric. In many cases the metric sizes are interchangeable with Imperial spanners/sockets but not all sizes. An ill fitting spanner or socket does damage both to the bolt/nut and, more importantly, your knuckles if it slips, be aware and measure the size with a metric to imperial vernier gauge which can immediately switch the exact sizes at the press of a button. Don't forget to allow for minimal clearance.

When are you guys gonna abandon the ancient imperial sizes, even us Bits did in 1974 but some in the UK still live in the past

The smash in the center is because the lug was stuck in a socket and someone used a punch to drive it out.

ive got good OEM lugs if someone needs some. I can also confirm 27mm is the size.
