Cool 2001 Won't Start

Hi everyone!
Hope you can help as I am not sure what direction to go in.
My 2001 Discovery won't start consistently. Yesterday it was fine, today it started up 2 times no problem. On the third it was the same as all of the other times it won't start: all the lights are on, the ac is on, i turn the key and nothing. it's like the car is in gear...which it is not.

In the past i have tried to jump it and it didn't do anything to help. But 15 minutes later it cranks right up. again all the interior lights were on, radio, etc

Battery? Seems strange that everything else lights up
Starter? It doesn't click which happened about 3 years ago when i had to relace the starter.

Help wanted and appreciated!

Is the red LED that is in the gauge cluster ON (or maybe flashing) when this happens? If so you car is not turning the alarm off (or perhaps turning it back on) when you get in it.

If everything is ok there, you probably need to see if you are getting power down to the starter solenoid when you try to crank and it doesn't crank.

It's possible. I've heard stories of the driver's door lock actuator acting up, keeping the key from disarming the system. I've also hear even weirder stories of the the actuator going bad so that when you shut the door, it arms the system again. That why I was asking about the red LED... if not... you've probably got something easier to fix.

Repair the key fob.
Get a battery back into it.

Go out and sync with the truck and take the locks up and down and all that.

Can't hurt.

Yep...needed a new starter bc my gaskets are leaking oil into/onto it.
Works great now

Opened up my key fob, the battery and several other small parts fell out. Is it possible to obtain and reprogram a new one without financing a service manager's new boat?
